Curriculum

At Oaklands Nursery School we provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum, incorporating the Early Learning Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum. Our stimulating environment supports and promotes independence which enables children to achieve their full potential and make significant progress. We also have a large outdoor space, including an outdoor classroom, woodland and mud kitchen which helps to enrich our curriculum - Forest school activities and the use of the wider community also enhances the children’s learning experience.

The staff have devised an engaging curriculum which meets all our children’s needs and abilities and our aim is to help the children develop into positive, confident and capable individuals and provide the knowledge, skills and cultural capital to succeed in future learning and later life.

We also acknowledge the different ways children learn and the challenges some children face and incorporate a balance of child initiated and planned activities. High quality communication and language, listening and responding to children, Sustained Shared Thinking, P4C (Philosophy for Children) and reflective language underpins all aspects of learning.  Further information on P4C can be found on this page: P4C (Philosophy for Children) | Oaklands Nursery

Staff are responsible for providing an inclusive curriculum that is differentiated for those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. We are aware of the importance of providing an inclusive learning environment for all pupils including those with SEND. Additional information on this can be found in our Special Education Needs Information Report and Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.

Oaklands works in partnership with the SCITT at Keele University and with schools within the Societas Trust, which it is an associate member of. This in turn impacts and influences the high quality provision Oaklands provides for all children.
