Curriculum

At Oaklands Nursery School we provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum, following the Early Years Foundation Stage 2024 (EYFS). Our curriculum and planning is largely based on the children's interests alongside provocations to deepen an enquiry-led pedagogy which inspires creativity, curiosity, awe and wonder. Alongside this approach we also recognise the essential knowledge, skills and cultural capital needed to prepare children for future success and provide them with opportunities to enhance their learning and experiences through carefully planned activities, trips, visitors and events.

The golden thread that runs through our curriculum is the high quality communication and language opportunities on offer though; listening and responding to children, sustained shared thinking activities, P4C (Philosophy for Children) and reflective language which underpins all aspects of learning. -Further information on P4C can be found on this page: P4C (Philosophy for Children) | Oaklands Nursery

Our stimulating learning environments, both indoors and out, supports and encourages independence which enables children to achieve their full potential and make progress. Our large outdoor classroom also hosts a forest area which enables children to experience nature first hand and enrich their knowledge of the world around them. Our aim is to provide high quality inclusive education and care for all.

Staff are responsible for providing an inclusive curriculum that is adapted to meet the needs of every child including  those children identified with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND). We have high expectations for all of our children and are committed to ensuring our curriculum also complies with the Equality Act (2010) and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations (2014). Additional information on this can be found in our Special Education Needs Information Report and Pupil Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy. See also our website page SEND | Oaklands Nursery.

As an associate member Oaklands works in partnership with schools within the Societas Trust, this in turn impacts and influences the high quality provision Oaklands provides for all children.
