• Mini Beast Educational visit

  🪲We have had a really special morning today as Rent-a-Beast came to visit nursery.
  🪲We met a huge green Katydid, several massive giant African land snails, a dung beetle called Frankie, some stick insects, beetle larvae and a tarantula who was 18 years old.
  🪲The children all loved it and had a fantastic time learning about the different creatures.

  

• Early Years Stronger Practice Hub

  We are thrilled and very proud to announce that Oaklands Nursery School has been named an Early Years Stronger Practice Hub—one of just 18 new hubs across England, bringing the national network to 36.
  
  This recognition reflects our commitment to excellence in early years education and our dedication to supporting high-quality practice across the sector. As a Stronger Practice Hub, we look forward to working with colleagues, sharing evidence-informed approaches, and helping to improve outcomes for young children and their families throughout our region.
  
  We would like to thank our staff, children, families, and partners whose support and commitment have made this achievement possible.

  Wednesday 8th July - Summer sing a long (Mighty Oaks children only). An end of year celebration for children.

   

  Week commencing 13th July - Spread the Happiness week.

• Summer sing a long (Mighty Oaks room only)

  Parents and relatives are invited to join us for a celebration and sing a long for those moving to big school. There is a morning celebration (11am) and afternoon celebration (2pm).
   

  

• Little Athletes

  Wednesdays we have Little Athletes in school, to work on our balance coordination and all round physical development.
  
  It is really important during these sessions that we have good strong and supportive, well fitted footwear.
  
  Can we try and remember trainers or pumps for Wednesdays please everyone! It will really help us move easier 👍😁

   

  

• Caterpillars

  Growth change and life cycles are always a popular theme which occurs naturally in the spring term for our children to explore.
  
  Our very own hungry caterpillars have arrived in both oaks and acorns rooms for us to observe this happen in real time 🐛 🦋
  We will keep you updated! 🤞🏼☺️

  

• Hatching chicks

  We received a very special delivery from living eggs this week. Our children were lucky enough to observe baby chicks hatching from their eggs, pecking their way through the shells, while they experience the first few moments of life in the real world as new hatchlings in an incubator.
  
  We have observed and cared for them as they became stronger baby chicks before they return to their more natural environment on the farm.
  
  This as you can imagine is quite a unique experience and one we are very fortunate to be able to have used some of our school fund towards. So thank you!

  Easter Bonnets (**Mighty Oaks room only**) - 25th March 11am and 2pm

  INSET day (nursery closed) - Friday 27th March

  Nursery reopens after Easter break - Monday 13th April

• Music makers

  Our weekly music and movement sessions start again from next Tuesday 20th January until Easter (every Tuesday except 17th February as it's half term).

   

  It will be a 9 week course costing £18.00. Full details are below:

  🎶Music & Movement Sessions Starting Tuesday 20th January!

  Run by Oaklands staff and held at Ellison Primary Academy.

   

  Each session includes:

  ✨Singing and rhymes

  ✨Dancing and movement

  ✨Instruments and sensory play

  ✨Fun, friendly activities to support early development

   

  Suitable for children 12months-4years.

  📅Day & Time: Tuesdays (Term time only) 1:30-2:45pm

  🏫Venue: Ellison Primary Academy, Ellison St, Wolstanton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Newcastle ST5 0BL

  💷Cost: £2 per child each week
